Just a little over 2 hours south of Montrose, this is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. "The Ancestral Puebloans inhabited Mesa Verde for more than 700 years (550 A.D. to 1300 A.D.), but for the first six centuries, they primarily lived on the mesa tops. It was not until the final 75 to 100 years that they constructed and lived in the cliff dwellings for which Mesa Verde is known." (Source National Park Service). This is a place not to be missed.
Curecanti National Recreation Area surrounds Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado's largest body of water. The lake is the largest Kokanee Salmon fishery in the U.S. Activities include fishing, boating, hiking, bird-watching, to name a few.

"The Montrose Water Sports Park (WSP), consisting of 1,000 feet of river, is one of the largest in the state of Colorado and one of the few in the U.S. to be accessible by ADA standards. The park was designed with all citizens in mind – from ankle waders to expert kayakers. It is located in Riverbottom Park, a branch of Montrose’s Clifford E.
